Järna lies where the Western Main Line meets the Nyköping Line, while commuter trains follow their own route towards Södertälje. [1] [2] [3] [4]
The Nyköping Line joins just south of Järna. Towards Stockholm, the older commuter route separates from the main-line Grödingebanan at Gerstaberg; a route passing the town does not mean that the train stops here. [1] [2]
Järna’s former brick station building was demolished when the tracks were expanded. The present station therefore reflects later capacity upgrades, although the town’s railway history is much older. [1]
SL's rail map places Järna between Södertälje and Gnesta on the separate commuter branch. Check the destination because its service pattern differs from the main branches through Stockholm City. [3]
The rebuilt station area brings together the bus terminal, bicycle stands and pick-up and drop-off spaces. Follow signs to the correct part of the interchange. [4]
Södertälje Municipality's design programme states that Järna station opened in 1861 and later became a junction when the Nyköping Line arrived in 1913. [5]
